The story of Lady Cheyenne
I knew when our eyes met at the street fair that morning that I needed her and she needed me, She was at the time only around 60 pounds and trying to hided from everything and everyone under a chair. It was a week before my 11th birthday, my already had a dog and we where looking at fostering a dog, but I knew in my heart that that little dog trying hided from the world was the dog for me. I beg mom that I would give up my birthday gifts and christmas gifts if I could have her. The person from the humane society told us that her name was Lady, she had just turn a year old, and that she was a Lab/Boxer mix. We bought her home the next day with her new name Cheyenne. It didn't take long to notice that she had been badly abuse and that she was not a lab/boxer but a lab/pit bull, it is/was illegal in my state to adopt out pits. It was far from easy but in time I helped her get over the abuse and nightmares, or for the most part she never truly got over them(the nightmares), and in turn during my darkest hour she save me. When ever I was about to give it all up she would put her head in my lab and let me yell or cry, just being there for me, and I knew that I could leave everything else in my life but I couldn't leave her alone.
Over time she become a dog that everyone wanted, even those who dilike dogs. I would see children poking her and messing around with her and yet she just sat there with that big pit bull smile. In her later years when she was getting white in the face and having a harder time moving around she would have young puppy's jumping all over her and biting her and yet she didn't even blink an eye. She always showed should loved you would never believe that she was abuse as a puppy. She would even protest the cats when they got scared and than would cuddle up with them for naps.
The years past, I was growing up and she was getting gray. Than come a time where we could no long Wrestle or play like we use to. I started to get the itch to leave town and never look back, to just travel. But I still couldn't bear to leave Cheyenne behind and she was starting to get sick and couldn't travel. So I stayed for the most part. Leaving town for a few months for difference jobs, but always coming back to the town I hate for her. I am happy to say I was with her the last few months of her life. Although being my dog it was my job to say when it was time, something I wanted to put off as long as I could even if that meant I was could move. Than come a day that she fallen down and couldn't get back up and I knew it was time and I can say that she did too.
Lady Cheyenne was 11 and a 1/2 and I was 21, she give me the best years of my life and than left so I could move on with my life, but She will always be missed and loved.
