About Midsummers Night Dream Kennels
The kennels was started at the end of 2000. Here we strive to breed high leveled, clean lined Working dogs specializing in Schutzhund. To
date the Kennels has done very well thus, we have decided to expand to other WORKING breeds. Our main focus will still be on Rottweilers.
We are very excited to announce our new addition, the LEONBERGER.You will also find a few other breeds in the Kennel. These are usually
BB dogs. And also a few Belgian Malinois, as I have a soft spot for them and consider them Schutzhund Dogs not Herding dogs. Our motto:

Breeding Requirements
If you are interested in breeding with any of my dogs, please msg me.
*My males will go on stud when they are on level 15 or higher and will only be bred to level 15 or higher females.
*Males must be level 15 or higher to breed to any of my females.
*The last of the breedings of my females are reserved for my Kennels, but special requests will be considered.
*If you want to use any of my males on your females, then you have to agree that if you sell the pup/dog that I will have first option on it!
*My females will only go on stud / be bred if L15 or higher or / and older than 55 days.
*No dog will leave my kennel for breedings.
*All pups bred by me will have my kennel prefix on.
*I will do kennel checks.
New Point System for Breeding:For the hip/elbows/eyes/ears health genes:
10 points = Excellent,
6 Points = Good,
2 Points = Fair,
0 Points = Poor.
Any dogs that has more than one Fair will not be bred with!!!

*Dog must be played with daily.
*Dog must be shown in max number of shows daily.
*Dog must be vaccinated monthly.
*Dog may not be bred until Level 10.
*If you ever sell the dog I MUST have 1st option to buy it back.
*Failure to comply by these rules will result in you being put on my private blacklist and no more services will be rendered to you.
BRIEF HISTORICAL SUMMARY OF THE BREEDS
Rottweilers
The Rottweiler is considered to be one of the oldest dog breeds. Its origin goes back to Roman times.
These dogs were kept as herder or driving dogs. They marched over the Alps with the Roman legions, protecting the humans and driving
their cattle. In the region of Rottweil, these dogs met and mixed with the native dogs in a natural crossing. The main task of the Rottweiler
now became the driving and guarding of the herds of
cattle and the defence of their masters and their property. This breed acquired its name from the old free city of Rottweil and was known as
the Rottweil butcher's dog".The butchers bred this type of dog purely for performance and usefulness. In due course, a first rate watch and
driving dog evolved which could also be used as a draught dog. When, at the beginning of the twentieth century, various breeds were
needed for police service, the Rottweiler was amongst those tested. It soon became evident that the breed was highly suitable for the tasks
set by police service and therefore they were officially recognized as police dogs in 1910.
Rottweiler breeders aim at a dog of abundant strength, black coated with clearly defined rich tan markings, whose powerful appearance does
not lack nobility and which is exceptionally well suited to being a companion, service and working dog.
Leonberger
Close to Stuttgart there is a small but well known town - Leonberg.
Leonberg - well known by dog all Leonberger Fanciers not only in Germany but also in other countries. 1808 until 1889 there was Mr.
Heinrich Essig living in Leonberg.
He was the Major of the City of Leonberg and at that time a famous breeder.
The coat of arms of the City Leonberg shows a Lion. It is said to be that Mr. Essig desired to breed a dog looking like a lion. Very famous at
that time was the St.-Bernhard-dog, Mr. Essig owned some of that breed, also the Newfoundland-dog and some of the black-white tapped
Newfoundlands, later better known as the Landseer-dog. Mr. Essig started breeding a litter of the Landseer-female and St. Bernhard-male,
and he made breeding experiments with the puppies of these two dogs over 4 generations. But he was still not really satisfied with the
results of his breeding. Luckily - one day - he found a Pyrenaen Mountain-dog, a strong, tall, white dog. With this Pyrenaen Mountain he did
some other breeding experiments and finally he got the first so-called LEONBERGER. The first original LEONBERGER was born at 1846 and
the breed got the name LEONBERGER in honour of the city of LEONBERG.
Belgian Malinois
Near the end of 1891 a Belgian veterinarian by the name of Adolphe Reul, gathered more than one hundred Belgian Shepherds (also known
as the Chien de Berger Belge) and their owners. He had decided to establish a breed standard for the Belgian breed. When the dogs were
brought together he found them to be ununified in type. He advised the owners to breed their dogs only to other dogs of the same coat type
regardless of their color. Most of the breeders agreed and a standard was drawn up. The following May the first specialty show took place
and the Belgian Shepherd started its long track to uniformity.In the early 1900's the Belgian Shepherd was recognized by the Societie Royal
St. Hubert, as one breed with four varieties. In 1914 World War I broke out and the efforts of the breeders and the number of breeding dogs
were diminished. Movements were made to save the breed from extinction. Breeding regulations were linnet and any dogs of quality of was
recognized regardless of color. All the dogs were allowed to breed regardless of their coat color or type. As a result different variety pups
were born in the litters. The Societie Royal St. Hubert registered the pups as the variety they were born and not the variety of the parents.
To date this is the desired practice for determining the variety.Around twenty years later as the breed finally started to flourish once more,
war broke out once more again losing valuable breeding stock. Thankfully the loss was not as great as the first war. Many of the dogs,
thousands, were brought into military service. They were used as messengers, scouts, border patrol, and Red Cross dogs.There are four
varieties of Belgian Shepherds: the Laekenois, the rough coated fawn, named for the area they were mainly developed, the Chateau de
Laeken, were Queen Marie-Henriette named them her favorite; the Groenendael, the long haired black, named from the Chateau de
Groenendael, were the two forbears of the variety lived, Piccard d'Uccle and a bitch named Petite; Piccard and Petite were also the forbears
of the third variety, the Tervuren, the long haired fawn with black mask and points. Their black son, Duc du Groenendael, was mated to a
fawn bitch, Miss, and produced the famous Milsart, the first Tervuren champion; The last variety was the Malinois, short haired fawn with
black mask and points. The malinois Tomy is considered the foundation of the variety. The malinois acquired its name from the city of
Malines.In 1911 the Belgian Shepherds gained recognition by the American Kennel Club. Later in 1959 the AKC decided to split the Belgian
Shepherd into separate breeds. The malinois and tervuren kept their original names, but the groenendael changed theirs to the sheepdog,
and the laekenois was dropped from recognition. From 1950 to 1965 the malinois was placed into the Miscellaneous class. In 1965 the AKC
gave the malinois full AKC recognition and placed them into the Working group. In 1983 they were moved into the Herding group were they
reside today.
Updates
- October 2007 - Robert is now 6kg. He smiles and laughs and "talks".
- September 2007 - Robert is fine. Weighs 4.5kg. Nothing much to say. Appreciating every extra day I have with Cabi.
End August 2007 - Unfortunately bad news struck us. Udo bit Cabi on the front leg over a toy. It wasn't hard, just hard enough to make
her yelp. We took her to the vet a few days later as it suddenly started to swell. She had to stay over night. The next afternoon we got the bad
news that it was cancer and that she has less than a month left. She isn't in to much pain, but in case she is prescribed some painkillers. We
take her home with a heavy heart. She was suppose to teach Robert about dogs.
-Mid August 2007 - Robert came home 2 days after he was born. We are very blessed as he is healthy and content. He sleeps well and
eats well. Everybody was very happy to meet the Little Guy. Dad is very proud. And I cannot get enough of him. Cabi turned 11yrs on the 15th!
Gave her a special meal and a BIG bone! And Udo got one to off course!
-07 August 07 - Robert was born @ 16:20. What a birth!!! I was booked into the hospital on Monday the 06/08, 3cm dilated. By 4pm
I was 3.5cm, so I was given an induction to speed everything up. By 11pm I was 4cm, and having very strong contractions, but Robert wasn't
in a hurry to come. By midnight I send hubby home to get some rest as nothing was happening (except for the very strong contractions). The
next morning at 5am they did another induction. By 1pm they decided to break my waters to help speed things along. At 3pm I had enough and
asked for a painkiller, which did not work anyway! Luckily @ 4pm they called the doctor as I was 9cm dilated, but Robert was starting to stress
(as well as his dad, which at one stage during a contraction, I sunk my teeth into his arm LOL). The doctor decided to help Robert out with
suction and at 4:20 he came into the world. After 27 hours of labour!! He weighed in at 3.4kg and 58cm long.
- Week Two - Had some strong contractions on Sunday. But they slowed down by 3am Monday morning.
Monday morning - Hmmm, Robert is very quite today. Not kicking my ribs to pieces like normal. Phoned the Gynie, going in @ 11:30 for a
check up scan, just to make sure!!
- August 2007 -
Week One - Nothing much happening, hanging round the house. Resting and cleaning. Tried to sleep late, but gave up. Cannot wait
to get my bladder back! And for this heartburn to go away!!!!!!!!! We decided on a name at last - Robert.
- July 2007 - Time is flying by! We have the nursery finished at last!!! Everything is ready for the baby to come. The Dr said everything is
on track for a normal birth. I'm excited but scared! This will be my last month at work. The dogs are fine. Rafiki, the Persian cat, got a shave.
She looks funny but its much cooler for her with summer (35+C) on its way. Udo thinks its a new cat, so he wants to chase her.
- June 2007 - Time is getting closer for the birth. Stomach is huge and bladder is, well, non existent!! LOL. This is Udo's last month at
training. Its getting difficult to keep up with the group when we do fast paced exercises. Antenatal clases this month every Monday night. Will
go alone to most of them since hubby will be in Angola for 3 weeks.
- May 2007 - Same as last month. Cabi is starting to get a few gray hairs, which I think Udo gave her, other than that she is still her mad
self.
- April 2007 - Not much happening. Pregnancy is going well. Udo's training is going very well. He can stand now on command. Not bad for
a 14mnth old rottie. Just wish he will stop destroying everything at home. luckily Cabi is there to keep him company, where she goes, he
goes!
- 23 March 2007 - New layout, thankies Cimeries!!!! Thinking of selling most of my Leonbergers and adding a few Cane Corso
- 20 March 2007 - Working Dog Breed Boost starts!!! At last!!!
- 08 March 2007 - It's a Boy!!! My Husband is over the moon with happiness!!!Due date is estimated end July, beginning August. Hubby's
off again on the 18th, this time, luckily to the UK!! Gave him a long shopping list XD
- 04 March 2007 - Our First Wedding Anniversary!!! What a great year it's being!We went to an exclusive Game Lodge. Went walking in the
Bush with the Ranger and got within 20m of 3 wild White Rhinos! I did have my tree picked out in case I needed it!!
- February 2007 - I'm lucky - no morning sickness, no nothing!! Udo is growing up fast. He now weighs nearly 60kg and not an ounce of
fat. He's obedience is stunning, but since the preggy surprise I'm not going to do Obedience Shows. Hubby is gone, again, this time to
Nigeria!!
- January 2007 - Surprise - But Great News - I'm Pregnant. Hubby is gone for two weeks to Angola!!
- 20th December 2006 - Got two new Leopard Geckos - a Patternless and a Super Hypo Tangerine Carrot tail.
- 14th November 2006 - Shadow died today. Took her to the vet yesterday, kidneys started to fail. She was 9 months old. R.I.P SHADOW!!
- 09th November 2006 - Today is my Birthday -- 30 --Enjoyed it very much. Udo is nearly 9mths and he is huge.He is already in Advanced
Obedience class and Im hoping to do some Obd. Shows in 2007 with him. Cabi is starting to show her age (9yrs) but she still runs the roost!!
Shadow is not doing very well, think I'm going to loose her. She has been sick for some time and the vet treatment is not working. She seems
to get better then she gets worse.
- 24th August 2006 - Man, time flies. Udo is now 6 months old. He still goes to training, now every Thursday. He is in Intermediate Class
but will be moving up to Advanced in September. He is doing really well.
- 12th May 2006 - Udo went for his first Puppy Class. He had 10 other pups to play with. He did a perfect stay and recall. He slept till 9am
Saturday
- 6th May 2006 - Took the whole "family" to the vet for boosters: - A cat and 2 dogs. Was quite a mission!! ;-)
- 13th April 2006 - Getting our puppy that we where waiting for from Sept 2005. He's name is UDO, meaning Prosperity in Hungarian. He
is one of the first litters in SA not to be docked. ROTTIES with TAILS!!! Jippee!!
- 1st April 2006 - Enter Mountain Dog Breed Boost & English Mastiff Breed Boost
- 4th March 2006 - Got married to the most wonderful man in the world, who even tolerates me spending nearly more time in front of FP
than anything else
- End Feb 2006 - Got a new pet - a Leopard Gecko called Shadow. She is a Jungle Morph
About ... Me
I'm a 30 year old married, pregnant female from Southern Africa. I have owned and trained rotties for the last 19yrs. I used to own two rotties,
ACTUALLY they owned me, Treadenham Zepho (ZAK) and Taris Cabi (CABI). Unfortunately I had to anaesthetise Zak when he was 7yrs and 5
days old due to cancer. Cabi is still going strong. She turned 9 in 2006. She was my working dog (now retired to sleeping in the sun ,digging
up the garden and eating) with quite a few qualifications
to her name. She was one of the highest qualified rottie females in SA, being qualified in IPO 1 (also known as Schutshundt), ITT 2
(International Tracking Trails), Obedience 1 & APT, in here time. She also passed her BST (Breed Suitability Test) and has a V grading in
showing under 2 International Judges. She can also do lots of
tricks. We got another pup earlier this year. It was a long wait, since end 2004, because we only buy from reg. breeders.He's name is Udo
meaning prosperity.Read all about him growing up in the updates. Apart from my own dogs, I "train" other Rottie owners how to handle their
dogs. Right now I'm training someone's naught teenage boy before he gets sent to jail!!I also used to be on the committee of the Rottweiler
Working and Breeding Ass. of Southern Africa (RWBA WEB PAGE), which is an active
rottie specialized training club.
To a Special Breed
A long time ago, when men were alone and afraid on this new earth, the Great Being looked over all the dogs that had been created. He
wanted that one special one, the one who would forever be the perfect companion for mankind. There were fast dogs, long and sleek, there
were massive dogs, slow but sure, dogs with keen noses, dogs with keen hearing and dogs who could hunt down lions. Dogs who could
retrieve and dogs who could herd sheep. All of these were good dogs, but not what the creator had in mind. Finally there was one dog. He
looked rather plain. Medium to large sized, and all black, with a head like a bear and no tail. The dog was to be tested, to see if he was the
one to be at mans side forever. And so the plain, black "bear like" dog was sent to mans fire. At first the men feared him. But the dog looked
down.... " I am sent to be at your side, to be part of all the man does". "You are black and strong like a bear! What if you eat our children?"
they spoke. "I would not do that, "said the dog,"for I love man." For three days and two nights the dog went with man while he hunted, and
helped track down game, he protected their flocks, and chased away the wild animals who sought to harm them. He pulled their loads and
supplies, and guarded their valuables. On the third night, a small girl came to him. She was frightened by dreams she had. So the plain black
dog laid with her, and his head rested gently upon her. As she dreamed of scary creatures, the dog entered her dreams and fought them off.
If she dreamed she was lost in the darkest quicksand, the dog would run to pull her out. All night long the dog never left the little girls
side. All night long he battled the demons in her sleep. When she awoke she hugged tightly her new friend, and kissed him once on each
cheek, and above each eye. Her hands stroked his feet where he had waded in the quicksand, her arms hugged tightly his chest, and stroked
his powerful muzzle and throat. Giggling and playing with her new friend and protector she even patted his behind. The child and dog
became inseparable, and the dog felt only undying love for the child. The Geat Being whispered in the dogs ear, then. "You have passed
your test, for many dogs can hunt and guard and herd, but you were not only willing to give your life, you went into the world of man and
entered his darkest dreams and fears. You did not run, but stayed by his side. You have earned the love of even the youngest child, as it
should be". When the Great Beings voice faded like a gentle breeze, the plain black tailless dog shivered with happiness, and all the places
the little girl had touched and hugged him became a wonderful mahogany color. And the Rottweiler was sent to be at the side of man, where
is his place. But always in his noble heart is a special place of love, for the little ones, The children.
