About Vom Gottlieb

Vom Gottlieb is relatively new, but is no doubt rising. We raise and train our animals to embody the true ideal of the German Shepherd Dog, Max Von Stephanitz's ideal of a "Golden Middle" (a Shepherd that has it all). At Vom Gottlieb, I selectively breed top bloodlines that will be superior for Schutzhund, Herding, Tracking, and Obedience. All breedings are carefully selected for health, temperament, and overall working ability.
Whether you seek a Shepherd with great working potential, outstanding heritage, or just an all around companion dog, depending on your needs, I may have the right dog for you.

Since the beginning, German Shepherds have and will always be Vom Gottlieb's main focus and triumph, but other breeds call this kennel home. Most namely Belgian Malinois', Beaucerons, and Giant Schanuzers. On a small scale I have some Doberman Pinschers and Dutch Shepherds. I'm positive you've also taken notice of other breeds, and while I do house them, feed, and show them here, they are not a true part of Vom Gottlieb. My Spinone Italiano' and Neopolitan Mastiffs, especially, were and are just a simple side project and are to be rehomed soon or placed at my other kennel.

War Dog History

You may be curious as to why I chose the theme of my kennel, in the following I will explain in deeper terms.
The Army Quartermaster Corps began the U.S. Armed Forces first war dog training during WWII. They must've been blown away and extremely pleased by the canines' abilities because by 1945 they trained almost 10,000 war dogs for the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. During WWII, fifteen War Dog platoons were sent and served overseas in World War II. Eight in the Pacific and seven in Europe. In 1951 all responsibility for the training and management of the War Dogs was handed over to the Military Police Corps. These animals have proven themselves time and time again, most notably Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Afghanistan and Iraq and many recent contingency operations

War Dogs were used extensively in Vietnam. Their abilities were unmatched in the thick, dense jungle. Charlie (a nickname for the Viet Cong) actually had a bounty for whoever returned a military dog's tattooed ear.
