Information

The Maremma Sheepdog is a breed of livestock guardian dog originating from central Italy. They have thick, long, rough, white coats that may have occasional minor yellowing and a fluffy collar around the neck. Males usually weigh 35-45 kg (77-99 lbs.) while females weigh 30-45 kg (66-88 lbs.) Maremma's have a gentle yet fierce temperament and are great a family pet but due to their instincts as flock guardians, they tend to bark which could disrupt neighbors if you live in a city. They need wide open areas to roam.

There is a big difference between a flock guardian and a shepherd. Flock Guardians are trained to protect the sheep from predators while shepherds round them up and bring them in.
